In my English / Reading Literacy book we just got done reading a fasinating novval called Mice ^& Men by Jon Stineback.
I was wondering if anyone ellse here has read it?
It truelly is an awsome book about friendship, currige, and the struggle to stay sane.
If you havent read it and you're looking for a book to read, I strongly advise you to read Mice & Men.

I read that book in school and read it after when I was older to better appreciate the writing. Steinbeck books are awesome!! the Grapes of Rath I suggest. Long but great!

Tending the rabits, and mercy killing?

It's wierd in that book though, because everything is pretty much forshadowed.
Think about it, Slim had to kill his dogs, Candy had to shute his old and sic dog, and Lennei ends up killing Kurly's wife (Who was a selfish hor), and then in the end, George has to kill Lennie? I mean yeah it was a great book, but still. I don't think I could ever kill my best friend, even if they were a little mental.

I read it, and finished it in one night... it was wonderful! I'd read it again if I got the chance. I cried at the end though when George had to shoot Lenny, I couldn't believe that a book would end like that. I just couldn't.

Back in those days, I guess mercy killing was legal. Lol

Steinbeck is briliant. I can't say I particularly enjoyed the plot, I didn't one bit when I read it. But the message was very elaborately woven into the text.
Every time a character's dream was about to come true, that dream came back and ruined itself. Just as Curley's wife was about to get a friend, the friend killed her. Just as Lennie was about to get his dream place, his imaginary rabbit taunted him.
It's a wonderful book to search through and try and figure out what other meanings Steinbeck is suggesting. Nothing at all happens in random, it all has a purpose--sometimes obvious, sometimes not so.
